Can I buy a home in Hamilton or Niagara on a single income?
Buying on a single income in the Hamilton or Niagara areas is possible, but it depends on what you buy, where you buy, and if you are or can leverage any of the government programs.
If you are looking to make it happen in the more bustling parts, gear your search towards condominiums and stacked townhouses. There are also affordable options for detached properties in both regions, however, if those areas are not familiar to you, it's extremely important to chat with someone or a local professional who knows.
Bottom line: if your income is under $70,000, buying in Hamilton will require a large down payment to make a mortgage work for an approved lender. In the Niagara region, there is a realistic shot in one of the more affordable municipalities.
